finally, a marathon training run worth mentioning

Tuesday's run was awful.  I barely made it 4 miles and my knees wouldn't stop aching and I was convinced that my shoes were dying well before their time.  Not cool because good running shoes are pricey.  I think I convinced myself that my shoes were dying because I didn't want to believe that I was out-of-shape enough that I'd still be feeling 12 miles 3 days later.

I guess I am just that far out of marathon shape though.  Last night I had an awesome medium-long run of 6 miles, and I would have run farther except the Annapolis 10-Miler is this weekend.  I'm not even feeling it that much today.  So yay that I don't need to buy new shoes, but I've got even farther to go towards marathon fitness than I thought if 12 very slow miles tired me out that much.

Today is my last day as an AmeriCorps*VISTA for the Frederick County chapter of the Red Cross.  I will post an official "end of VISTA term dance" post when I'm really finally officially done after 4 pm this afternoon.  Then it's time to watch the high school marching band's preview show (which my brother will be in), get a long-overdue haircut, help my one sister move away to school, and run the Annapolis 10-Miler that I'm sure isn't as miserable as all the runners around here seem to think.

Then Monday I sleep in...read until my brain goes numb, look for a temporary/evening job at the grocery store, ride up to Monkton on the NCR Trail for lunch, go to the Red Cross volunteer orientation (for Central MD), and go to the library book club meeting to talk about The Devil in the White City.  I get bored if I'm not crazy-busy.  :-)

The part I haven't told you is that my mom might be coming down for the race this weekend. Yay for maybe not having to drive down to Annapolis by myself at 5 am. Plus, Kristin leaves for college tomorrow and I can already tell that it's going to be tough so I figured this might help. Hope you don't mind.

I don't mind at all--she's welcome too, or we can take a rain check and celebrate your VISTA term finale when I come back from my PSO. Etouffee anyone? :-)
