4th and 5th grade is my favorite age group to teach because of exactly what you said-they're old enough to have a personality and be able to do really neat lessons with, but they're young enough that the hormones haven't fully kicked in yet and they're not too cool for school. Now that I have my special ed certification I want to go back and finish up my general ed elementary cert so I can teach 1st-5th too. Just in case I need a break from special ed, especially the paperwork part.
Special ed kids aren't so different, especially not the ones I'll be working with. They're still kids, they just learn differently/more slowly.
