woman power, do not mess with me

I just saved $150 on my car repairs by playing Goodyear off of Meineke and threatening to call AAA for a tow from the Meineke parking lot if they didn't match Goodyear's price to install the starter.  I bought the starter at AutoZone and if I bring back the old one I get $32 back.  Had I been smart and installed a new battery myself I could have saved another $100, so lesson learned:  shop around and do whatever repairs on your car that you can do safely.  Car mechanics are expensive.

My next challenge is to get around New Orleans for several weeks without a car.  Yay bikes and public transportation and good walking shoes.

As soon as I get a teaching job and a paycheck, my challenge will be to buy a good used car and not get ripped off.

A trip to Hong Kong Market may be in order.

I'm hoping that I'll be able to use my car for some things, just as little as possible. Still, grocery shopping is always more fun with someone else.
