burned

Aw geez. Stupid me decided not to wear sunscreen while running 12 miles under a cloudless sky with no shade at high noon. So now I have a brilliant sunburn, mostly on my face, arms and shoulders. Sleeping tonight is going to be an interesting proposition.

When will I learn that sunburn really really hurts before it actually happens?

On the bright side, I ran 12 miles and realized that church is only a shade over 6 miles from campus. I'm seriously considering running up there next Sunday-church doesn't start 'til 11, and it would be fun to see the looks on people's faces when I told them I ran all the way from St. Mary's to Lexington Park. Car? What car? I don't need a car. :p

Also on the bright side, I'm up to 46 pages on my SMP. I'm also realizing that my St. Mary's Emancipation section is better than I thought and doesn't need that much revising to be presentable. That's good because the two slavery sections are still a mess and need a lot more work before I feel good about them.

Okay, back to work. Hopefully they won't find anymore bombs/fallen light fixtures on campus and I can actually get my work done.

I'm being proactive this year...sunscreen for nearly every run.

Use some aloe after sun lotion. I use it every summer every day.

Good job with the 12 miles.

I was 1/2 way out the door before I realized sunscreen might be a good idea, but I didn't feel like waiting another 1/2 an hour for it to soak in. The aloe gel is a good idea though-I have some after-sun gel stuff that I've been using copious amounts of lately. B-)
And thanks. It was good to know that I've still got long distance running in my blood. That 12 miles made me very happy. :-)

I've gotten burned at both of our track meets so far this season. I have the sunglasses tan from wearing my Oakleys during practice, too. It's become a full-blown tan on my arms and face but the rest of me is pasty white still.

I hate winter.

And bravo on the 12. I only got 7 in yesterday.

Winter around here is great for running weather-wise. (When there's not ice or freezing rain or single-digit windchills, anyway.) I sure was pale though-still am on my legs. Someone tell me why my shoulders are burnt to a crisp but my legs are barely tanned???

I heard your track team is doing pretty well. You must be doing something right. :-)

Michigan is one of the most runner-unfriendly states in the union--unpredictable, unstable, and not very scenic unless you live near one of the lakes or up north. And in the winter, it gets NASTY. And I have the same problem--my legs usually get dark first, but my arms are darker than my legs right now.

We did pretty well on Friday, and we have another meet tomorrow. Then we have a 10-day lull without competition. Can anyone say "butt-kicking?"

I think I know what I'm doing...I've been running for 14 years. But compared to some people, I know zero. Thanks for the compliment, though. :-)

My grandparents live not too far from Detroit and I visit them for a couple weeks every summer, so I know what you mean. I ran the Run Thru Hell last year though, and that was pretty scenic-good thing 'cause the hills were insane!

And the UP is gorgeous. That was my family's vacation last year.

I don't envy your team's butt-kicking next week. :p

Wow...let me know the next time you're coming into the area. We'll go for a run. Run Thru Hell is rough--I ran it 2 years ago, but it's a fun race. My favorite Michigan race is the Crim 10-mile.

And I will agree with you about the UP...it is gorgeous up there. Down here by the border, however, it's all farmland. (I live in Jackson, about an hour from the Ohio border.)

I don't think I envy them either. ;-)
