Nov. 15th, 2004 11:03 pmWow. How come no one warned me that doing well in 4 upper-division classes was going to be so much work? So much reading and scores of pages of papers to write and a slew of presentations, all coming due right as my motivation flies out the window and senioritis sets in. Yay.
Actually, this presentation I'm working on right now-for my Values Inquiry philosophy class-on Quakers, is actually pretty interesting. My partner Annie is covering their basic philosophy with a little history thrown in, while I get to cover activist social justice Quaker organizations. I think I found a place I want to work, or at least a place that offers internships that would be an alternative to Americorps if I don't get my way (ie, a placing in the Baltimore area) after graduation. It's called the Friends Congress for National Legislation (www.fcnl.org), and it's basically a political lobbying group that believes almost exactly what I do. Pretty cool. It's always good to have options.
Running is going well, my SMP is going well, and going home last weekend to see my sisters' play (A Midsummer Night's Dream) was well worth it. I think I ran my long run Sat. a little too hard-9:40 average pace for 11 miles, with the last 3 at about a 9:10 pace. (That's marathon pace for next time, I hope.) I got my hands on the first 92 pages of the St. Mary's County census Friday, and I'm busy imputting information for all the blacks and mulattos in St. Inegoes in 1870 into an Excel spreadsheet. Fun fun fun. More like an excuse to listen to Jimmy Buffett while still being productive, if you ask me.
Okay, enough rambling. Time for bed for me. :-)
