Feb. 8th, 2008 03:32 pmWhat have I learned from subbing this morning? That I want to teach 3rd or 5th grade as long as I stay in Louisiana, that's what. 4th grade is the year students take their LEAP tests and if they don't pass, they get held back, therefore the classes can be huge and with waaaay too many behavior and academic problems. The 5th grade PE classes this morning had 20 students each; the 4th grade classes 30. I swear one of the 4th grade students had to have been 14 years old; he looked like he belonged in high school.
I've also learned that while traffic over to the West Bank isn't as bad as I expected, I still need to find a way to sub in New Orleans as soon as possible. I have 2 1/2 days of subbing in JP lined up for next week but I'm working on subbing in charter schools in the city. I may give RSD another try too; there's gotta be a special ed. position out there somewhere that I can handle.
By the way, it took me about 30 seconds to change the headlamp on my car.
On the bright side, the weather is gorgeous and I just bought a cantaloupe and a pineapple from Mr. Okra.
