I don't actually knit and I haven't hardly picked up my clarinet since I graduated from high school 4 1/2 years ago, but I did have a very interesting conversation with a band parent from my former high school at a knitting class last night. See, the trick with this VISTA thing is that it only lasts for a year, and then I have to figure out what to do afterwards. I've toyed with a bunch of ideas-another VISTA term (either close to home or requiring a substantial move), grad school (for any number of things), getting a job-any job-and seeing where things go from there...you get the picture. I really have no idea what I'm doing.

But back to the conversation. She brought up the very neat idea of working in one of the national parks. The way I see it, it's perfect-I get to be outdoors, I get to use my loud voice (I'm definitely not afraid of public speaking, in case you hadn't noticed), I don't have to sit at a desk all day, I get to talk about history, I could move pretty much wherever I wanted. It's sounding like a distinct possibility.

As for where...I'm still working on that. Somewhere up in the mountains would be nice, and wouldn't have to be that far from home. Ever since my Outward Bound Swap-Ya week way up in the Smoky Mountains, I've thought living in/near Asheville could really work for me. Must research...

On the work front, flood safety presentations start tomorrow and I have two volunteer observations scheduled. Hopefully that means by Friday I'll have two more volunteers who are comfortable giving presentations so I don't have to run myself ragged all over Frederick County this month.

That idea for the job sounds great--I can really see you doing that, and it really involves you doing a lot of stuff you love. I'm behind you regardless of what you do, obviously.

Did you like my post yesterday?

If you're interested in a substantial move to a beautiful place with a lot of history, I'll recommend the Olympic peninsula in Washington State. It's absolutely beautiful up there around Lake Quinalt, and the majority of the peninsula is a national park.
