Okay, so what did I really expect? This is the Red Cross, things do change every 5 minutes, after all.

I'm currently marked in the DSHR system as 'available,' meaning that I'll likely be heading down south when when the first hurricane strikes, if not before. As CrossNet likes to remind us, hurricane season starts in 105 days or something like that. No pressure or anything though.

I'm also marked in the system for 'Family Service,' which for all you non-Red Cross people means client casework. The very intense hands-on interacting with people who have just lost everything kind of stuff. I want to see if I'm cut out for that before I start looking into social work master's programs more seriously.

As far as CDE goes, I've learned not to hand out balsa-wood airplanes in the middle of a presentation. You would have thought I could have figured that out without trying it, but nope.

I'm getting seriously interested in what you're doing. I'm not sure who you work for and exactly what it is you're doing. It appears to be in the same vain as my current job...which I have to leave in under 4 months. Can you email me?? clmcormick@verizon.net

Now you know that you'll be deployed for sure, though not quite as soon as you were hoping...and I'm behind you all the way, as always. And that casework thing does sound intense, though I can see you doing that very well, indeed.

Hee hee...balsa gliders are so much fun. I can see how they'd cause problems.

It could be next week, or it might not be until July. I might not even be doing the casework-it could be staff services (which I did during Katrina) or community services (feeding) or sheltering. The key word here seems to be FLEXIBLE.

The flexibility factor is understandable, especially with the nature of the work, though I'm confident I speak for both of us when I say I hope it isn't next week. Regardless, whenever/wherever you go, whatever you do, you have my full and constant support along with everything else I give you every day. :-)

That's amazingly difficult work. Wow. Oh and I've added you in return as I read his journal too and enjoy reading what others are doing in their lives. Hope you don't mind.

I don't mind at all. Keeps things more interesting.
