another good book
Feb. 28th, 2006 12:42 pmI just finished the excellent book Under the Overpass last night. It's one guy's story about how he put his faith into action by living on the streets for 5 months in 6 different cities. It definitely makes me want to read more on homelessness and get hard to work as a VISTA eliminating the adverse effects of poverty. If nothing else, the book made me question whether or not I really judge people without getting to know them, and it makes me want to DO SOMETHING, which I know I already am but it makes me want to do more.
Up next today is enjoying wearing my Mardi Gras beads and calling apartment complexes to get fire safety, prevention and insurance information out to the renters. I'm not big on phone calls to people I don't know, so we'll see how that turns out. I'm also going to run 4 miles on the 2 mile hilly loop in my neighborhood after handbells this evening. (I'm saying that because telling you all will hold me to it.)
