Blue Dog Relief
Apr. 2nd, 2006 02:59 pmIf I had enough money, I'd buy a print of each one of these. I have a bumper sticker and button of the last one, which Wendy so awesomely got for me at the New Orleans Museum of Art and which I wear proudly in support of all the wonderful people of New Orleans.

I even got to meet the artist when we closed K-Paul's. At the time, I didn't even know how cool that was. Meeting Paul Prudhomme and George Rodrigue in the same evening. What a night.

Date: 2006-04-04 02:03 pm (UTC)How do I explain to them that every time I see a blue tarp or the pile of lumber in my backyard or a shopping center where all the stores are open it reminds me of being down there? How do I explain the emotional impact of seeing graffiti that says "Katrina you won"? An experience like the one we had down there does not leave you easily.
We had our hurricane season debriefing/picnic last night. Pretty much everyone else there either volunteered locally or had been back for months. While I know that everyone that volunteered locally did just as much good as we did down there, the experience is completely different. Besides, someone who's had months to work through this is at a much different place than we are, having just gotten back a couple weeks ago.
Back to work.
