If I had enough money, I'd buy a print of each one of these. I have a bumper sticker and button of the last one, which Wendy so awesomely got for me at the New Orleans Museum of Art and which I wear proudly in support of all the wonderful people of New Orleans.

I even got to meet the artist when we closed K-Paul's. At the time, I didn't even know how cool that was. Meeting Paul Prudhomme and George Rodrigue in the same evening. What a night.

They're even serving etouffee today. Oooo does that ever sound good.

I have my Blue Dog button on my pocketbook as a way of sparking conversation, but it is so often disappointing. What I see in the image and what others here see just aren't the same. I try to explain it, to draw a picture with words, but I seem to come up short. I'm so happy to have it, but it is somewhat bittersweet.

In the car I listen to the zydeco CD I brought home with me. That is some happy music!

It's just one of those things you have to experience to understand. That's gotta be one of the hardest parts of coming back-you had this incredible, incredibly emotional experience and as much as people may want to understand, they just don't. They want you to be able to discuss it rationally. They wonder why you haven't gotten back to routine yet.

How do I explain to them that every time I see a blue tarp or the pile of lumber in my backyard or a shopping center where all the stores are open it reminds me of being down there? How do I explain the emotional impact of seeing graffiti that says "Katrina you won"? An experience like the one we had down there does not leave you easily.

We had our hurricane season debriefing/picnic last night. Pretty much everyone else there either volunteered locally or had been back for months. While I know that everyone that volunteered locally did just as much good as we did down there, the experience is completely different. Besides, someone who's had months to work through this is at a much different place than we are, having just gotten back a couple weeks ago.

Back to work.

I should have gotten some zydeco music. I'll have to see if any stores up here have any, probably not but it's worth a look.
