We're going to have a booth at a minor-league baseball game and I need some easy disaster preparedness questions the kids can answer for prizes. Some of the questions I already have are:

How many feet of water does it take to float a car?
Name one item that should go in your emergency preparedness kit.
How often should you test your smoke alarms?

Any other ideas? Thanks for your help.

The opposite of question number 2: What is one thing that should NOT go in your emergency preparedness kit?

What should you do if a tornado warning is issued?

What should you NOT do during a lightning storm? (I learned that one from you ;-) )

I'll try to think of some more, but those are the three that come to mind at the moment.

Hope we can talk soon.

Here's one more:

What's one thing your family should do to prepare for a fire?

When is the most dangerous point of a thunderstorm?

How much water should you have for one person for one day?

How should you check to see if it's safe to open a door during a fire?

That's all I've got for now :) Have fun!

So what IS the most dangerous point of a thunderstorm? Even I don't know that one. Either that, or I'm overthinking it.

Before the first lightning strike, because you have no warning and don't know to get to safety. :)

A meteorologist from the National Weather Service told us this during our CERT training.

How should you exit a smokey building?
How should you put out a grease fire?
If a storm comes up while you are camping, where should you seek shelter?
What should you do if you suspect hypothermia?

I feel like such a bum when compared to you. But its cool. B/c I'm sorta in shape for me, and I've joined the firehouse near me. So I'm not a complete bum, I'm just not as awesome as you. Thats all.

Last summer I was a little closer to awesome when I was running 50 mile weeks. This summer...not so much. I've been lucky to get in 20 miles a week and that's pushing it most weeks.

As far as work stuff...definitely not awesome but I'm trying not to let it get to me.

But thanks anyway. I look forward to reading your journal and learning more about you.
