Apr. 30th, 2004 11:01 amThings are generally going pretty smoothly here. It's good to be home, but I miss Miami, especially when the temps got down in the 40s and even 30s earlier this week. Needless to say, I was very happy yesterday when it was 80 degrees for my long run on the NCR Trail. Maybe cooler weather is easier on the body for distance running, but give me a warm summer day over cold and wind any day. And when a pair of cyclists rode on past me talking away in Spanish, all I needed was palm trees to make me feel like I was back in Florida.
So other than running, what have I been up to this past week? Working on the Key West census and remembering that I need a summer job to pay both for the Key West trip I'm going to take over Spring Break next year and for the laptop with which I update the census. Given this beautiful spring weather the last thing I want to do is spend 8 hours a day 5 days a week inside packaging parts or sorting papers, but it's better than working in the deli again and having to work on the fourth of July. That stunk. Coming home every day smelling like meat didn't do much for me either. What I'd really like to do in terms of a summer job is give history tours at the Farm Museum, but I'm pretty sure they only take volunteers.
Michelle, if you're reading this, I'm not sure if I'll be able to make it to your SMP presentation. My mom got the date wrong and signed up to help with a field trip that day, and the idea of driving on the beltway does not make me happy. I'm sorry. I'll try and work up the nerve :-), but no promises. Didn't you say you were giving another presentation later in the week, so you'll have more than 15 minutes to present a year of work? Let me know-maybe I can get away with starting my summer job a few days later.
Okay, back to memorizing "Margaritaville." Hee hee, back to [the] Key West [census] I go.
