Thanks to getting bumped on my flight home last summer, I can fly round-trip from Baltimore to New Orleans for $22.  Yay for travel vouchers.

So here's the itinerary:
Wednesday, February 14th, 2007-leave Baltimore 9:40 am, arrive Chicago 10:55 am then leave Chicago 2:05 pm, arrive New Orleans 4:25 pm
Sunday, March 4th, 2007-leave New Orleans 11:00 am, arrive Dallas 12:40 pm then leave Dallas 2:00 pm, arrive Baltimore 5:45 pm

Next up:  contact Hands On to find out where they're based at this point and to let them know I'm coming.

I'm extremely jealous that you already have your flight figured out. I need to have more money before I do that. And with my living situation changing soon, I'm gonna have to squeeze just to get down there.

If you see any really good travel deals, let me know?

And let them know I'm coming too? The Saturday before Mardi Gras until the 25th.

Drive safely tomorrow. Call me on my cell or at the office (I think you have my office number) if you need to take a break during your drive.

American has round-trip flights for about $200, close to Mardi Gras to boot, with the added bonus of an excellent frequent-flyer program. (American should pay me, I give them so much free advertising.) Checking on both Orbitz and Expedia the cheapest I can find is $189 round trip for 2/14-2/27 (your 10 days of vacation) on Delta routing through Atlanta on the way out and Continental routing through Houston on the way back. The layover on the trip out is too short for my comfort and the departure time on the way back (5:45 am) is waaaay too early for Pat O'Brien's the night before unless you just don't go to sleep that night, but that's a rough estimate of what you're looking at.

That close to Mardi Gras you're probably not going to do much better than that. But if we fly out on the same day and get in at about the same time, we can ask Denise to pick us up or at least split the cab fare, and hopefully Emily will get in on this too.

Geez, maybe I should be a travel agent or something. That was entirely too much fun.

Reading back over your comment I saw that you specified travel dates, which will make finding cheaper fares more difficult. You'd have better luck if you traveled mid-week, maybe Thursday-Thursday. The best I'm finding is $287 on Orbitz and $344 on Expedia.

One trick is to check all the airline websites every couple days to see if you catch any good deals or just to get a feel for which ones are cheaper, more flexible, etc. Trust me on this. I love to fly but I have about as much money as you do so I have to be resourceful. Air Tran offers cheap flights too, but they have almost no leg room and not nearly as good of a frequent flyer program.

Stick with it. You have 90 days until you want to leave (and I have 87, but who's counting?), so you have all kinds of time.

I may just use them all in one fell swoop--we'll see what I can swing. If I can make up the sick day I took a couple weeks ago with a day on the worksite after Thanksgiving so I can keep all of my vacation days, that's what I'll do.

You're right, you did have entirely too much fun with that. At least we know who's travel-savvy here.

I got 10 vacation days in addition to my 10 sick days, but that may just have been a VISTA thing. I'd check on that if I were you.

Far as I know, it's 10 vacation/personal days. Those count as sick days. So I'm down to 9 since I used one during my cold.

It is fun. You should see me use Expedia or Travelocity like a fiend sometimes. :D

Oh, I'll be in on it, you can be sure of that. The only question, hopefully, is whether or not I'll already be in town when you guys get there.

Time will tell. :)
