UNO application fee-$40
3 Praxis I tests-$145
Praxis II Elementary Content test-$115
cost of flight-$222, $22 with travel voucher

anytime spent in New Orleans-priceless

I sent in my UNO graduate school application yesterday afternoon, and I submitted a college transcript request last night.  My plane bound for New Orleans leaves next Wednesday at 9:40 in the morning.  I'm taking the Praxis II Elementary Content test in Towson at 7:30 am April 28th, and the fall semester 2007 starts in the middle of August.

It's a lot happening all at once but I can't wait to get started.

On a different note, I was able to get in my run tonight without piling on the layers and braving 20* plus wind.  A friend from my running club offered to let me use her treadmill since it's been so cold this week, and was it ever great to run in shorts and a t-shirt.  I ran 7 miles in an hour and 11 minutes and afterwards we talked marathon training and our favorite races for over an hour.  We've both run Marine Corps, NCR, the Annapolis 10-Miler.

Nothing cheers me up like 7 miles out of the cold.  That, and the Oh, My NOLA CD I bought this afternoon-thanks [profile] roadwarrior220 for the tip.

I have to keep up running so I'm ready for NOLA...what kind of CD did you buy? We'll have to meet up down there...

The CD is Harry Connick Jr.'s latest offering. It's a bunch of songs that are considered New Orleans classics (stuff like "Workin' in the Coal Mine"), with his own spin on them. He wrote four new songs for the CD too.

I cranked up "Yes We Can" as loud as I could, just like he suggested in the album's liner notes.

If you don't post before then have a safe and success-filled trip. Best of luck with the rest as well. You are on your way to a number of worthwhile achievements.

I'll make a couple of voice posts while I'm down there if I don't have access to a computer. I'll be sure to post lots of pictures once I get home as well. I'm as much as required to by my church because I'm trying to recruit members for the Mississippi trip this summer.

My Praxis I scores should be here any day now. If I scored at least 172 on each of the tests I'm golden.

yikes, that's some serious cash. But teaching's worth it. It's extremely frustrating, challenging, annoying, requires many extra unpaid hours, tons of self-lessness ... but it's the most rewarding thing I've done with my time other than motherhood.

That's before tuition too. Yikes is right.

I've enjoyed disaster education presentations and subbing enough that I have to at least give teaching a chance. Thanks for the encouragement.

Such a good CD. I really like the whole thing, which is rare, because I can't find many CDs that have stuff I like the whole way through. I think I own maybe 3 CDs that I like all the way to the end.

Sheesh...7 miles seems so far off for me. 3 miles left me bruised and battered last night, at least in terms of comfort this morning. It's not post-marathon soreness, but I can definitely tell my body's unhappy with me for being out of the game for so long.

You busy at all this weekend? We should do something fun before you leave. Wouldn't mind saying goodbye to Heidi either.

I have a Flying Feet run Saturday morning, then we're leaving to take Heidi up to school in the afternoon. We won't be back until late on Sunday-hopefully not too late, because I have a sub job on Monday that starts at 8 am!

Maybe tomorrow evening though...

The microwave at Robert Moton makes my oatmeal explode, so I had an excellent excuse this morning to make beans and rice while listening to the CD. I made it up to "Sheik of Araby."

So far, I'm surprisingly not-stiff after the run last night. I'm going to shoot for 4 miles tonight now that it's warmed up a little. It'll be a chance to listen to more of The Dharma Bums, anyway.
