The word is that we'll be allowed back into New Orleans as of midnight Thursday.  I am sorely tempted to be waiting at the checkpoint when it opens but in the interest of not arriving back in the neighborhood in the middle of the night sans electricity my plan at this point is to wait until early Thursday morning to leave Birmingham.  Like 4 or 5 am early in the interest of avoiding as much traffic as possible.  You'd better believe I'll be playing New Orleans music all the way.

6 hours with rest stops if I don't hit traffic.

Considering we didn't know if there would even be a New Orleans to go back to 48 hours ago, I can't begin to explain how exciting this is. I half expected to be in Maryland by the point that I'll hopefully be arriving back in New Orleans. I am baptized as a New Orleanian through an especially stressful evacuation. I was going to do Vic 'n' Nick's BBQ and plantation homes and the art museum tomorrow, but if New Orleans is calling me home, then so be it. Black coffee to sustain my re-entry drive with three animals is fine by me.
