Ya know, it's really hard to teach kids about fire safety when teachers keep contradicting you, telling you you're wrong 'cause that's not what their fire marshall grandpa told them when they were little. Ever think that things might have changed in the past 30 years? They seemed to think I was pretty incompetent when it came to pre-k kids as well. At least the kids liked practicing escaping from a fire by crawling low under a blanket. Whether or not their teachers were acting like idiots is not my problem.

I can't wait to get back to running. Maybe this is why I stopped running marathons for awhile, I hate taking time off from training to recover.

Maybe it's just the rain that's putting me in a bad mood. Rain, begone!

Sorry the teachers were giving you a hard time- what were they saying was wrong?

One of the VISTAs I worked with had somone ask her if he could put a gun in his disaster kit...

They were saying you shouldn't touch a door if you think it might be hot because you might burn yourself. They also said you shouldn't tell the kids to open the window because they won't be strong enough. So in other words they were telling the kids to stay in their room when the house is on fire so they don't burn their hand. I'm not thinking she thought that through all the way.

Yeah, guns in a disaster supplies kit would be a BAD idea.

I'm guessing the teacher wouldn't like what a fire marshall told me to tell the kids: that they should throw things at the firement if waving something white doesn't work.

*sigh* Little things make the job interesting.

I would be pretty frustrated with them too if that was how it went. Was this today?

Keep your head up--you're doing awesome and I know how badly you want to break 4. I'll be there for you every step of the way. :-) Before, during, and well after NCR. :-)

Yesterday morning. I've made the executive decision to send a Red Cross volunteer down there if they want another presentation, though I doubt they will. That teacher wasn't the only way they made me feel unwelcome.

But onwards and upwards.

Like I said last night, it's a thankless job you have, and you're gonna run into people who make you feel unwelcome no matter what. And like you said, you've had some great experiences too.

Did you get my e-mail?

I didn't realize it, but you're the one who has the neat RW forum tagline at the end of your posts. Just wanted to let you know how cool it is.

And, that teacher needs to buy a few clues.
