I decided to best the Army Physical Fitness standards...chose the Army so I could beat Chris. :-) First the women's scores: http://usmilitary.about.com/od/army/l/blfitfem22to26.htm , then the men's: http://usmilitary.about.com/od/army/l/blfitm22to26.htm .

You're welcome to join in, but I suspect you'd probably ace the test on the first time. :-)

I think I just might join in--but I'm not as strong as either of us think I probably am--I haven't done any strength training in a while and my upper body (especially my chest) tends to be deficient, so we'll see what happens. But I'm in. :-)

You have until March 1st to reach a score of 80 on all three tests, preferably with all three tests completed on the same day.

Sounds good to me--I'm already there on pushups, but situps appear to have eluded me. I only had 63 last night. :-P And I'm pretty sure my 2-mile time is under 13, but we shall see.

Yet another thing for us to do together. :-)

I've thought about doing the same. My husband has given me the score sheet repeatedly and I always trash it. Why? I don't know. His current fitness goal is 90% or above on all three parts so he can get the PT badge/award/whatever it is. He's cut 2+ minutes off his 2 mile run but has more to go, pushups are cake for him, and he's working on situps. He wants to achieve this goal for his PT test when we move next summer.

Hey, want a training partner?? a virtual one?? heh

My best 2 mile time is 15:36 and I can do 53 situps in two minutes. As for pushups...let's not go there. Suffice to say I need some practice.

Virtual training partner? Sounds good to me!

Okay, I'll go print up those things and do we have a timeframe for this goal??

Are we shooting for a perfect score or just a passing score? I'm thinking maybe 80% in each catergory, then work our way up from there. I'd like to get there in the next couple of months, then get to 100% a couple of months after that.

How's that sound to you?

Pick a date for a deadline and we'll go with it. I'll say 80% is good enough for the first goal. March 1??

80% by March 1st sounds good for me. Right before my next big race, the B&A Trail 1/2.

I noticed you are younger and I fall in an "older" age category. I'd like to know why on God's green Earth I have to do more sit ups and more pushups than you but can run slower? WTF?? 50 pushups and 82 situps, but 15:48 for the two mile run. gggrrrr

Because my arms hurt after doing just a couple of real pushups last night? You got me.

Oh God...Real pushups?? not on my knees?? I could die doing that and REAL situps!! *lol*

Yes, real push-ups, not girly pushups. :P

Hey I was going to try to pass the various physical fitness tests too! I wanted to try to meet the minimum passing scores needed for males. My 2-min runs and push-ups need work. And if I get around to trying the pull-ups for the Marines test, that's going to take a lot of work.(I'm not even sure I can do 1 pull-up right now). And of course, I'm also puzzled why the older bracket for females needs more situps and pushups than the younger bracket. That's cool that you two posted about this right when I was wondering about it.

:-)

If you want to join in, we're going to try and pass the tests with a score of 80 in all three areas. I think we should try and complete all three tests on the same day too.

We're currently in week 3 if March 1 is our goal date.

Amen to that! It's gonna be a long, hard road--I'm not in the kind of shape I thought I was in! :-P
