It's done.

I just submitted my online AmeriCorps application to 10 programs, all of them down on the Gulf Coast. Once the website starts working again, I'll submit my application to a few programs in Maryland, just in case. I'm still waiting to hear back from my NPRC contact at the Red Cross in Baltimore.

But wow. Now let's see what happens.

As always, I'm praying this works out the way it should and in a way that will allow you to do what you love. I'm behind you all the way.

Dude. (Ok, so I'm in a good/weird mood and when that happens Dude just comes out of my mouth like I'm a surfer in the 80's. Sad.)

Sounds awesome! What organizations are you looking at?

And, because I'm ridiculously excited about my upcoming Red Cross extravaganza, check out www.fattireclassic.org. It's a Red Cross junkie's dream. (Second only to actual deployment) Hehe.

Red Cross, SELA (Southeast Louisiana) chapter, Baton Rouge chapter, Southwest Louisiana chapter in St. Charles
Community Resource Coordinator, NOLA and Baton Rouge
Gulf Coast Recovery Team (3 month stint)
Habitat for Humanity, NOLA and Baton Rouge
VOA (Volunteers of America) Southeast, Mobile, Alabama

Then a few positions in Baltimore and Southern MD.

That's an awesome fundraiser. Much better than a golf tournament. Now if only the Red Cross would organize a marathon, I'd do it. :-)

Uh-oh--I applied to those Habitat Chapters and the Baton Rouge Red Cross, though I'm guessing you didn't apply to NPRC down there.

Which positions in MD did you apply to aside from NPRC?

And I'm with you on the Red Cross Marathon--I'd be one of the first to register.

We'll cross that bridge when we come to it.

Actually, I haven't applied to NPRC yet. I'm still waiting to hear back from Marcos as to whether they're still accepting applications, and I need to ask him if I can start a month late. I'm not leaving Frederick before my term is up.

I applied to:
-NCCC (if they keep their funding)
-Calvert County United Way (2 different positions)
-Charles Village Community Foundation (I was accepted for a summer position there last year but I couldn't take it because they couldn't pay me)
-Community Resource Coordinator, Baltimore
-Maryland Conservation Corps (I know they have a place down near St. Mary's 'cause I used to run by it all the time)
-Volunteer Southern MD

I figured I should cast my net wide, then see what happens. If I moved back to Southern Maryland at least I'd have an (alumni) gym membership and friends to hang out with. :-)

I had considered applying to the Maryland Conservation Corps, though the website would only allow me to have 10 applications out at a time and you know my experience with Habitat. I had to withdraw the applications that I hadn't heard from in a month or more (Howard County Habitat, PG County Volunteer Center) to make room for a couple of the others. They were all in Maryland and since I have an offer there now, I'm not terribly worried about that.

I wasn't really worried about the places we applied to in common--I expected it'd happen. I don't think we'll both get offers from the same place, since most of the postings are just one position, and I think we'll probably be telling each other where we get offers from, anyway. And it makes sense about NPRC, though it helps that you know them and they know you, which I would assume at least gives you a slight advantage.

And about moving back to Southern MD, that'd be great, since I know you still have a few friends down there, and a couple I'd love to meet yet. :-) And I know it isn't too long a drive from Annapolis. Like we've been saying, we'll see where the cards fall.

Wait, I thought you said you applied to 16 different positions. Was that before or after you withdrew some of your applications?

That was after I withdrew the ones that I had heard nothing from in a month. I did that last week.

That's all the applications combined that I've submitted and withdrawn. I submitted 6 in Maryland, and only heard from 3, so I withdrew the others and submitted more. Some of those were returned/rejected (they weren't accepting applications anymore, though it wasn't indicated on the website) so I applied for more. Does that make better sense?

Sorry I didn't spell this all out to you last night--didn't really come to mind until now.
