And so it begins.
Jun. 16th, 2006 11:13 amI just got an email from the director of Success by 6 at the United Way of Calvert County, who's very interested and wants to talk more with me.
I followed Coleen's advice and applied to a bunch of different places because you never know where you'll end up. It could be Baltimore, or Southern Maryland, or NOLA, or somewhere else in Louisiana, or Alabama. I just don't know.
The most important thing is that I've gotten the ball rolling.

Date: 2006-06-16 10:27 pm (UTC)Wow, we're really piling these things up. I'll have an interview with the Arundel Volunteer Center before we leave for NOLA, and my NOLA NPRC interview is reset for Tuesday at noon.
Things are really starting to take shape. For both of us. :-)

Date: 2006-06-17 04:50 pm (UTC)I'm hoping the NPRC will see that I'm dedicated to my program and see that I'd extend the same to their program if they invited me to join. They might have enough other equally qualified applicants who are able to start at the end of July, though, so that's the catch.
I know I'd take the position in Baltimore if it was the only AmeriCorps position I was offered. I'm pretty sure I would take it if I was only offered positions in Maryland. The thing is, I'm not at all sure I would take it if I was offered a position in NOLA, esp. if I was offered something in NOLA with the Red Cross.
Hopefully I'll get an offer or two before we leave on our trip. Hopefully you'll get a few more too.

Date: 2006-06-17 05:25 pm (UTC)I figured the NOLA positions would take precedence over the Maryland positions if you were offered one, especially with the Red Cross. I'm hoping my interview goes well on Tuesday, because I know once I get to New Orleans, I know there won't be many other places I'll want to be.
And I'd like to have at least 2 offers before we leave, so I have something to contemplate. One from the gulf coast and one in Maryland (which I already have, so no worries there) would be great. I hope you have the same or better when we get there.

Date: 2006-06-17 04:40 pm (UTC)I wouldn't necessarily accept either of those positions if they accepted me. I'm just going to be honest when they interview me, see what happens, and hope I get an offer from one of the gulf coast positions (preferably one of the NOLA positions).
Then I'll go on this service trip and see if I can stand to be anywhere other than NOLA. :-)
