I just got an email from the director of Success by 6 at the United Way of Calvert County, who's very interested and wants to talk more with me.

I followed Coleen's advice and applied to a bunch of different places because you never know where you'll end up. It could be Baltimore, or Southern Maryland, or NOLA, or somewhere else in Louisiana, or Alabama. I just don't know.

The most important thing is that I've gotten the ball rolling.

Where's Calvert County?

South of Annapolis. Really nice area, not quite as in the boonies as really southern Southern Maryland (like were Beth and I went to school).

Now that was quick--took me a few days to get my first response, and that was from Arundel Habitat, which obviously had a very positive outcome. Either way, you've gotten your first reply, and that could only mean there are more coming. I knew you were a valuable asset to whoever you worked for, and it seems the director at United Way realized that very quickly. :-)

Another tentative phone interview on Wednesday with NPRC in Baltimore. The gating factor would be whether they're okay with me waiting until the end of August to start working full-time.

I don't see why they wouldn't, since they know your commitment to Frederick and the great things you've done there. I know they'd like you there when the term starts, but they at least seem flexible enough to allow you to finish your first commitment.

Wow, we're really piling these things up. I'll have an interview with the Arundel Volunteer Center before we leave for NOLA, and my NOLA NPRC interview is reset for Tuesday at noon.

Things are really starting to take shape. For both of us. :-)

Errrgh, I hate it when I select all the text in a comment box and type over it and delete a perfectly good comment.

I'm hoping the NPRC will see that I'm dedicated to my program and see that I'd extend the same to their program if they invited me to join. They might have enough other equally qualified applicants who are able to start at the end of July, though, so that's the catch.

I know I'd take the position in Baltimore if it was the only AmeriCorps position I was offered. I'm pretty sure I would take it if I was only offered positions in Maryland. The thing is, I'm not at all sure I would take it if I was offered a position in NOLA, esp. if I was offered something in NOLA with the Red Cross.

Hopefully I'll get an offer or two before we leave on our trip. Hopefully you'll get a few more too.

The loyalty factor was exactly what I was talking about with NPRC--that you're loyal and dedicated to whatever you do, and that you'll extend that to any job you accept.

I figured the NOLA positions would take precedence over the Maryland positions if you were offered one, especially with the Red Cross. I'm hoping my interview goes well on Tuesday, because I know once I get to New Orleans, I know there won't be many other places I'll want to be.

And I'd like to have at least 2 offers before we leave, so I have something to contemplate. One from the gulf coast and one in Maryland (which I already have, so no worries there) would be great. I hope you have the same or better when we get there.

Something I forgot to ask you earlier--could you interview for the other Calvert United Way job concurrently with the interview for Success by Six? That's how I interviewed for both of the jobs (Youth Programs, Faith Relations) I applied for with Arundel Habitat, and it obviously worked well. If you can't, did they give you a time for the second interview?

And when are your interviews so far this week (timewise)? I ask because I'd like to say a prayer for you during those interviews.

wow. two interviews. congrats. Where in Calvert County is the United Way? If you get offerred one of these two positions, will you take it or will you wait and see how things go w/the gulf coast positions you applied to?

BTW, 1 named storm so far ...

Prince Frederick.

I wouldn't necessarily accept either of those positions if they accepted me. I'm just going to be honest when they interview me, see what happens, and hope I get an offer from one of the gulf coast positions (preferably one of the NOLA positions).

Then I'll go on this service trip and see if I can stand to be anywhere other than NOLA. :-)
