I just had a long conversation with the current VISTA at the United Way Volunteer Resource Center in Calvert County. It sounds like a very interesting position, very flexible both in terms of hours and in terms of the work I'd be doing. Since the United Way partners with so many organizations, I'd be able to turn the position into whatever I wanted it to be. They also have the possibility of a couple months of free housing through an organization they partner with while I get settled in the area.

They also wanted me to accept the position by tomorrow so they can get the paperwork started for the PSO in July. I'm not ready to accept a position without a few more interviews/offers, and I can't leave my current position until after August 25th. They seemed to be very understanding.

I also have a phone interview with the NPRC in Baltimore on Wednesday at 10 am, and a phone interview with another Calvert County United Way position at 1:30 pm on Thursday. I'm still waiting for contact from one of the Gulf Coast positions. Like Adam, I'm hoping I'll have a couple offers from both Maryland and the Gulf Coast by the time I leave on the NOLA trip June 30th.

So far, so good. Things are looking up.

So my understanding is that you turned down the one position (which one was it?) at Calvert. Is that accurate? Or did they give you a little time to consider it? Either way, it's completely understandable because it's difficult to make such a sudden decision. Reminds me of all the interviews I had back in April, since they all wanted me to cancel my plans for the next day and come back for training, though your situation is different.

I have my interview tomorrow at noon with NOLA NPRC, and then I'll have one with Fay Mauro from Volunteer Arundel after she returns from the Points of Light Conference in Washington on the 22nd. Hopefully I'll get a few more interviews between now and the 29th (since I'll be either in the air or in New Orleans on the 30th), and as you said, I hope you will too.

I'll say a prayer for you during your two interviews this week, and I'll be sure to let you know how tomorrow's interview goes.

I guess I did make that a little confusing. I didn't turn down the position; I just tried to be very honest with them. I told them I was looking at positions in Baltimore and Louisiana in addition to the ones in Southern MD. The position they're offering sounds very interesting but I want to keep my options open at this point.

The VISTA who interviewed me will be back to work on Wednesday or Thursday and she'll send me more information then.

Okay, that makes better sense. I didn't think you'd turn anything down just yet, since you just submitted your application last week, but I had to clarify that. I didn't tell Leslie (Habitat) where else I was interviewing, but she does know I'm interviewing elsewhere and understood my need to wait a couple weeks to really make any kind of decision.

Was this the Success by 6 position you mentioned? Or was this the other one that you weren't sure about?

This is the other one. The Success By 6 position interview is Thursday afternoon.
