next fall is starting to come together

I listened to Fats Domino's "Walkin' to New Orleans" 5 times straight while waiting at a traffic light after I had my academic counseling appointment this afternoon.
Monday morning I can register for two of my teaching classes and any other classes I want at the University of New Orleans. I'm thinking History of Louisiana and History of New Orleans Music, or possibly Intro. to Latin American History or "Irish Famine and Katrina". Tomorrow morning I take my PRAXIS II Middle School Social Studies test, and after UNO gets my score from that test I can register for the rest of my teacher classes. I can't wait to get back in school.
Plus, there's still the possibility of a provisional teacher certification, which the academic counselor told me students do on a regular basis. I'm not thinking I want to do that right away, but I might after my first semester. Once you get a provisional certification you can get a paid teaching job and get certified with a capstone project instead of student teaching. I'll see how I feel about that after I move down there and get started.
Also, there's on-campus housing that you can get for just the fall semester. I'm not sure if there's a kitchen in those suites, but if it's just for the fall I could deal with that. I still have to call Privateer Place (another on-campus housing option) and see if they'll let you do just the fall semester. If I can live on campus without the commitment of doing that for the whole year, I can look for off-campus housing without having to do that from 1000 miles away.
I still have to get the financial stuff sorted out, but one step at a time, one step at a time...

Date: 2007-04-28 03:44 am (UTC)I think it's the hist of NOLA course that's supposed to be really good. Denise would know more.
Housing: They're building a new housing thing, which is supposed to be done in August. It's pretty big and flying along, but I don't know if i'd count on it. The dorms are really shitty from what I've heard. I've seen P Place and it's not too bad, but you'll prob have some random roomate. Apts. are starting to come up in the area, but I'm sure they're $$$. Don't get a ground floor near campus :|

Date: 2007-04-28 01:01 pm (UTC)P Place was the one I was thinking of, but I really don't want to go through living with college freshmen again. Maybe if I had my own place...but still, I don't think they have kitchens so I'd have to buy a meal plan. I don't want to live on campus unless I have to.
Not a ground floor near campus? You mean, because of the mold and flood damage?
I didn't see the history of NOLA class on the schedule for the fall for some reason, otherwise I'd be all over that.
Thanks for the advice.

Date: 2007-04-28 05:32 pm (UTC)Yeah, campus barely flooded, but across the street took 8 feet of water. I know you've see what that can do, and do you want to trust that they took care of the mold completely, after it stewed for several weeks?
