I'm up to three out of 50, including audio books.

2.  Islam:  A Short History.  I listened to this on my way back and forth to work.  The recitation of names that all sound the same to me and dates for which I didn't have much context got confusing a dragged a bit, but I enjoyed the last hour or two that talked about Islam and modernity and religious fundamentalism.  That made a lot more sense to me, esp. having just finished The World is Flat and having taken a religious fundamentalism class in college.

3.  The Tornado.  (324 pages) I'm a freak for anything have to do with extreme weather, which is one reason why I enjoy disaster education so much.  I got to read the better part of this book at work-it spends time giving facts and figures about how tornados form and where they're most likely to strike, as well as breaking down myths like the supposed attraction of tornados to mobile home parks.

Next up:  Still working on The Storm of the Century, then on to Sing to Cuba.  I'm working on reading 5 books on Caribbean literature, history or culture-this will be number 3.  In the car, I'll be listening to 18 hours of Don't Know Much About History-strange choice for a former history major, but there you are.

As always, you amaze me. :-) Keep it up--you'll be done WAY before me. I have some work to do.

That's mostly 'cause I spend at least two hours on the road every day, and I can get away with reading some of that stuff at work. Gotta read up on disasters if I'm going to teach kids about them, after all.

Wish I had that kind of open window for my reading built into my day. :-P And as for reading at work, I've decided that reading fitness research got old long ago, and the more I try to read it when I'm there, the more bored I get. Not a good sign.

A sign you're in the wrong profession, anyway.

We've known that for a while now. I'm pretty much here, I've decided, just until I'm done working with Annie.

I was just recommended a book that you might enjoy (I have not read it yet, but have been read an excerpt that was incredibly well written), called "Small Island", and I think the author's last name is Levy, but I'm not sure. The author is Jamaican.

Andrew Levy. I just checked with the local library and it's on my list. Thanks for the recommendation.

Not really, for better or for worse. I did get a bunch of new Jimmy Buffett CDs for Christmas, though, and I'm having a lot of fun looking to them en route to work.

Rorking...and you're an English teacher too. What is this world coming to? :P
